A Strategic Expansion into the Heart of Technology
Wolfspeed Inc. is based in Durham, North Carolina. The company is a leader in manufacturing silicon carbide (SiC) power devices and materials.
Now, Wolfspeed is making a major strategic push into the booming data-center sector. The company has announced a new specialized data-center power architecture solutions team. They are also opening a new regional office in the San Francisco Bay Area.
This dedicated unit aims to foster deeper collaboration with three key groups:
- Major hyperscale cloud providers
- Original design manufacturers (ODMs)
- The broader technology ecosystem
Through these partnerships, Wolfspeed plans to co-develop advanced, unique products. These solutions will be tailored specifically for artificial intelligence (AI) applications and next-generation data-center power needs.
The Imperative for Next-Generation Power Efficiency
The call for groundbreaking innovations in data-center power architecture is at an all-time high, driven by unprecedented computational demands. Wolfspeed believes this strategic initiative places the company in an optimal position to provide advanced high-voltage power solutions built on its silicon carbide power devices. These solutions are engineered to significantly minimize energy loss and maximize overall electrical efficiency within modern AI computing infrastructure. The inherent properties of SiC allow for operations at higher voltages, frequencies, and temperatures compared to traditional silicon, which is crucial for the power-hungry data centers of today and tomorrow.
Leadership Perspective: Rewriting the Rules for AI
“The immense and growing scale of AI computing infrastructure necessitates a complete overhaul of traditional data-center power design,” stated Robert Feurle, CEO of Wolfspeed. “Transitioning to high-voltage power solutions is no longer a mere option for improving efficiency—it is an absolute requirement. By situating our new data-center solutions team at the epicenter of technological innovation in Silicon Valley, Wolfspeed is uniquely equipped to deliver the critical high-voltage power solutions that our hyperscaler and ODM partners require. Together, we aim to construct the highly efficient, powerful, and sustainable data centers that will define the future,” he added, underscoring the company’s commitment to this pivotal market shift.
Introducing Key Leadership: Ganesh Srinivasan
Wolfspeed has appointed Ganesh Srinivasan as Senior Vice President to lead the new data-center solutions team.
Srinivasan brings a wealth of industry experience. He has worked extensively with leading hyperscalers and the complete ODM network. His core expertise lies in delivering end-to-end power delivery and signal connectivity solutions. These complex systems are designed specifically for high-density AI clusters.
His career includes impressive leadership roles:
- TE Connectivity: Served as Vice President of Product Management for the AI, Cloud, and Enterprise business unit.
- Texas Instruments: Spent over 17 years leading multiple product lines within the power business division.
He also holds a strong academic foundation. He earned both his Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Welcoming a Power Systems Expert: Yogesh Ramadass
Further strengthening the team, Yogesh Ramadass joins Wolfspeed as Vice President of Power Systems Solutions & Fellow. Ramadass is a recognized authority in both high- and low-voltage power conversion topologies and is a prolific author, having penned more than 160 technical articles. His most recent role involved leading research and development initiatives across high-voltage power management, micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), and sensor technologies at Texas Instruments. Ramadass earned his Master of Science and Ph.D. degrees from the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). His distinguished career also includes roles as a former IEEE Distinguished Lecturer and as the chair of the International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) Power Management Subcommittee, highlighting his deep industry standing.
A Commitment to Long-Term Growth and Customer Value
Wolfspeed has stated that this substantial investment in talent and geographic presence clearly demonstrates the company’s unwavering commitment to enhancing its core capabilities. This move is designed to support sustained long-term growth, ensure effective execution of its strategic vision, and drive meaningful value creation for its global customer base and shareholders alike. By focusing on the critical intersection of advanced materials like silicon carbide and the evolving needs of AI computing infrastructure, Wolfspeed is positioning itself as a fundamental enabler of the next wave of data-center efficiency and performance. The establishment of this team in Silicon Valley is a clear signal of the strategic importance of the data-center market and Wolfspeed’s intent to be at the forefront of providing the essential silicon carbide power devices that will power future innovations.
This development marks a pivotal chapter for Wolfspeed. The company is aligning its cutting-edge SiC technology with the most pressing challenges in modern computing.
Wolfspeed’s focus on high-voltage power solutions underscores a major industry trend. Tech companies need specialized, efficient hardware to support the exponential growth of AI and cloud services. Leaders like Srinivasan and Ramadass will be instrumental here. They will translate Wolfspeed’s component-level advantages into system-level solutions that meet the rigorous demands of hyperscale operators.
Data centers have become the central nervous system of the digital economy. As they evolve, power management and conversion innovations become increasingly critical. Leveraging superior materials like silicon carbide is now essential for managing three key factors:
- Energy consumption
- Operational costs
- Environmental impact
Wolfspeed’s expansion is a direct response to this market imperative. The move aims to cement its role as a key partner in building a more efficient, powerful digital future.
